Meet the Team: Jordan Rorrison

In our latest ‘Meet the Team’ blog series, we spoke with Jordan Rorrison, Senior Motion Graphics Designer

Jordan joined ZeroLight in 2020, as Motion Graphics Designer, and was promoted to Senior Motion Graphics Designer within 2 years. Jordan is responsible for creating and editing high quality marketing materials for a range of ZeroLight projects.

Jordan originally applied for the role after spotting our office on the Newcastle Quayside! He kept an eye on job openings on the website and jumped at the chance to apply when the right position for him came up. Due to the pandemic, he didn’t actually get to work in the studio for his first 12 months, but now comes in everyday.

Please can you tell us a bit about your career to date?

I studied Graphic Design at The University of Edinburgh, working part time on the Genius Bar at Apple throughout, which fed my passion for tech and design. I graduated in 2018 and moved to Glasgow where I worked as a Digital Designer at a design agency, developing my love of motion graphics. Two years later I moved to Newcastle and started working at ZeroLight.

What do you do on a day to day basis as Senior Motion Graphics Designer?

On a day to day basis the projects I work on can range widely and could be anything from working on product prototype videos, bespoke projects for one of our many automotive clients, to setting up the cameras and lighting in our recording studios to record live webinars or demos.

What is the best project that you have worked on?

My favourite project has been working with Volkswagen to create a video to showcase our product Concierge. I was given the freedom to storyboard, style frame and animate this piece of work from start to finish. It was really rewarding to see the video end up on the Volkswagen Germany website.

What is your favourite part of your role?

My favourite part of the role is the huge variety of projects that I could be working on. I’ve also enjoyed the opportunity to dip my toes into other things such as photography, filming and more recently UI and UX.

What is it like working at ZeroLight?

It’s great to work with such a talented mix of people at ZeroLight. The technology that we create is cutting edge and the mix of this and working with automotive clients is exciting, particularly at a time when so much is changing in the world of automotive and tech.

The views of the city from the terrace, ping-pong at lunch and unlimited snacks are all a massive bonus too!
