This week, we hosted our own ZeroLight Bake Off in order to raise money for charity (and eat cake).
With our chosen charity ‘Joey's Fund' set and our bakers in competition mode, all we needed was someone to kindly volunteer to judge our lovely treats. And who better than the owner of Jesmond's amazing Cake Stories, Hannah Evans?
We had countless entries into the competition, including Brazillian Brigadeiro Cupcakes, Caramel Flapjacks, Carrot Cake and a ‘Fish' Cake!
With an entire bar top filled with baked treats, Hannah had her work cut out to judge so many baked goods. But, no matter how delicious they all were, a decision had to be made, and the Star Baker title went to Adam Curtis with his famous Guinness and Chocolate Cake!
The Star Baker received a gift voucher for an Afternoon Tea for 4 in Cake Stories and, perhaps more importantly, the ZL Star Baker Apron.
We were fundraising for a very special cause, ‘Joey's Fund' - part of the Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust. Joey McHarrie Quilliam was only four months old when he was diagnosed with an extra-renal rhaboid tumour (ERRT), an extremely rare form of cancer. He sadly passed away in September 2018, and ‘Joeys Fund' has since been set-up by his family to help finance the much-needed research towards rhaboid tumours.
The ZeroLight employees managed to raise an amazing £200 for the charity, and we hope we can continue to raise awareness to aid the research for ERRT.
Thank you very much to all our bakers who took part in the event for providing such fantastic cakes and congratulations to the Star Baker Adam! And thank you to all that donated to the charity.
