What were you doing before you joined ZeroLight?
I've only just graduated, so I was spending most of my time studying towards my BEng in Computer Security and Forensics up in Edinburgh, but I was also working as a Second Line Network Engineer for a managed service provider in my spare time. Because I worked with a variety of businesses specialising in areas ranging from accountancy to bio sciences, I was able to develop my technical knowledge, particularly in Networking and Windows Servers environments.
What are your hobbies?
I love sports, so I regularly go the gym and have joined my local Velo (Cycling) club alongside the ZeroLight staff running club. Like Jack, I'm a big Newcastle United fan, and regularly go to matches (which has its highs and lows…), but, touch wood, I think we are on the up with Rafa! I'm also hoping to dust off my boots and join a local team myself now that I've moved back down to the North-East.
So, what do you do here at ZeroLight?
I'm the Cloud Project Engineer, which is a really diverse and exciting role. In short, I manage and deploy cloud based services for our partners, but each day is different, so I'm constantly learning new things. Working with a range of teams and partners, my role can get quite demanding, but this just makes it even more stimulating.
What's your favourite thing you've worked on?
In my short time here, I've already worked so many things I've really enjoyed. Working with the cutting-edge technology we have here, particularly in cloud infrastructure and VR, has been a highlight in and of itself, but I've particularly enjoyed our recent work upgrading our cloud car configurators.
What are you most looking forward to working on?
I'm really looking forward to continuing to expand my technical knowledge and applying our innovation to the cutting-edge of cloud services. I find working on projects with our partners around the world to be exceptionally motivating, so I'm always looking forward to this as well!
