What were you doing before you joined ZeroLight?

In terms of work, I was a Video Editor for an online marketing company in the Philippines for the last 4-years, but I've also done documentary films for charities as well as freelance corporate and event videos.

Aside from work, though, I've travelled all over Asia. I visited Thailand, Laos, South Korea, and Singapore, but my favourite place was definitely Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam - it was the first time I travelled on my own, and the experience was incredible!

It's only a small city, so you can see pretty much all the sights just walking around town, but one of my highlights was when I ventured a bit further out to visit some temples and see the monks do their fascinating morning routines.

How have you found Newcastle after moving up?

I've lived in a few very different places: my family have been based in Salisbury for 15-years, but I also lived in London for 4-years whilst at uni.

In comparison, Newcastle has been a refreshing change. It's a happy middle-ground between the quiet countryside of Salisbury and the full-on hustle of London. It's not too big, and there are a surprising number of places to explore!

I can go to the city centre where I've got everything I need: plenty of shops, restaurants, parks, and museums to visit. Getting around the city is also very easy with the Metro and the new mobikes.

It also doesn't hurt that the beach is only 30-minutes away, especially with the summer we've had this year!

What are your hobbies?

I've been making the most of the beautiful weather since I arrived by doing some yoga and surfing at Tynemouth Beach. Lately, I've also taken up kickboxing, and I've been doing some running near our studio on Quayside. I do enjoy a quiet night in reading books too - I'm currently reading Notes on A Nervous Planet by Matt Haig.

Aside from that, as you've probably guessed, I absolutely love travelling! Now I'm back in the UK, I'm very keen on travelling around Europe. I visited Iceland in February, and it was incredibly beautiful, so I'm looking forward to my next adventure!

What do you do here at ZeroLight?

I'm a Video Editor in the Marketing Team. My main responsibilities are producing and editing videos for both ZeroLight and our clients.

Every day is really quite different, but always fast-paced! There are a lot of projects to get involved in, so I could be editing videos one day, then shooting and doing interviews the next.

On top of that, I've also been helping Helton with managing some of our media assets and doing motion graphics and animations.

What's your favourite project you've worked on so far?

I've got two answers!

My favourite video I've worked on so far is definitely our SIGGRAPH StarVR video. It was quite conceptual, so I had a lot of freedom. There were so many elements involved like sourcing stock footage, creating animations, shooting film footage, and then editing them all together, which was both fun and challenging.

In terms of an entire project, I really enjoyed the BMW M Tour. I jumped right into it from my first day - I ended up flying off to Slovakia to film the BMW track day event with Helton just a couple of days after joining! As well as the incredible cars on display, we also showcased our latest VR demo, which went down really well.

The whole event was great - I got to combine two of my favourite things: travel and filming. On top of that, the BMW team even let us ride an M5 around the track, and they gave us really good feedback on the videos, which is always nice.

What are you most looking forward to working on?

We've just finished filming some staff videos to showcase the vital work each team does. I really enjoyed the shoot as it was much more relaxed since we were focusing on the company rather than clients! We'll be doing several similar videos in the next few weeks on company culture, so that should be fun!
