We've always saved something special for London Tech Week over the years, and this time was no exception: we partnered up with BMW!

As part of BMW's M Drive Tour, we created a range of digital experiences for the brand-new BMW M5. With a pre-event video configurator, VR and 4K track-side configurators, and a post-event microsite, BMW M customers could create and explore their new M5 before, during, and after the exclusive event!

After its successful debut in Slovakia, we took the VR and 4k configurators on the road for TechXLR8's AR VR World.

Once we'd hurtled down the East Coast Mainline from Newcastle, it was time for the fun to start! While Jack and Joe tried their hardest to look like they were helping, our Senior Software Engineer, Ian, set about turning boxes and crates into the BMW Virtual Experience.

After Ian had worked his magic, we were all set and ready to go! With the first visitors due to arrive at 12pm the next day, we took a well-deserved rest before the three-day event got started.

Once the doors opened, the demos came thick and fast, with the VR demo proving to be an instant hit!

A six-stage process, the experience took users on a full tour of BMW's latest performance vehicle. After donning the brand-new HTC Vive Pro headset, visitors could flick between different colours by pushing their virtual racing glove through the coloured buttons shown in front of the car.

After that, they could reach down and open the boot. Inside, they'd find their racing helmet which they could actually put on their head!

At the next stage, they could choose between three different alloys.

But we know you can't rush these decisions, so we made sure everyone got down for a closer look to ensure they picked the right one!

Next came the really fun part: if they walked up to the door, they could actually climb in and sit in the car itself!

Once inside, they were free to configure the interior and interact with things like the steering wheel, rear-view mirror, and arm rest.

After the excitement of VR, visitors could explore the car in stunning detail using our real-time 4k configurator. Featuring the same interaction and configuration options, this enabled users to really see every detail of their configuration. They could even watch it race around Le Mans in a real-time rendered driving scene!

But we weren't just there for demos! Our CMO, Francois, also took to the stage with the Head of Event and Sportmarketing BMW Group Central and Southeastern Europe, Florian Stiller, to outline the impact immersive experiences like these can have on brand engagement.

But, in and amongst all that, we still managed to squeeze in some surprisingly good fine-dining on our breaks!

Before we knew it, it was time to leave - thanks to everyone at KNect365 for yet another incredible TechXLR8 event!
