Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. partnered with ZeroLight and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to create a cloud-powered vehicle configurator for the launch of the all-new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander. The custom-built visualisation solution played a key role in the Outlander's pioneering reveal on the 16th of February, when it became the first vehicle to debut via Amazon Live. The configurator, which has now also been integrated into Mitsubishi's website, is the only way for customers to get a closer look at the hotly anticipated vehicle and its features before going to a Mitsubishi Motors dealership to see it in person.
This engaging digital experience is a powerful way to reconnect brands with customers during the pandemic, which has made face-to-face retail all but impossible for much of the last year. The success of the announcement, which gained significant attention in the press and on social media, emphasises the exciting future of live-streamed product launches and demonstrates how ZeroLight's interactive technology can make these events more engaging and impactful. The Amazon Live page is available here.
The Amazon Live experience and the new website configurator are both powered by ZeroLight's Palette+ product. All content is rendered entirely in the cloud using AWS's scalable infrastructure and then streamed to the user's mobile, tablet, or computer like an interactive video, with no on-device rendering or plug-ins required. Not only does this enable the configurator to be easily integrated into any website, but it also means that it is not limited by the customer's hardware, making it more accessible, scalable, and comprehensive than alternatives. The impact of this is significant: the experience runs on AWS's EC2 compute technology, which delivers 10 times the processing power of an iPhone 11.
"From the way we design our vehicles, to the way we launch and sell them, we strive to deliver memorable experiences for our customers at every opportunity. Our partnership with ZeroLight, and the world-firsts it has already delivered, reflect this steadfast commitment to continued innovation."
Mark Chaffin, COO, Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc.
The configurator enables customers to visualise a comprehensive range of options. From an easy-to-use interface, they can personalise their vehicle by choosing between various colours, trimlines, packages (including options like deflectors, mudguards, and roof rails), and accessories (ranging from bumper protectors and spoilers to wheel locks and towing hitches). As they do so, they can freely move around the vehicle, flick between interior and exterior views, use pre-set camera angles, and even transport the SUV to four breath-taking virtual environments. This interactive experience allows customers to visualise 100,000 different permutations of the Outlander, which would not have been possible without the power of the ZeroLight's cloud-based technology.
"Through this partnership, Mitsubishi has created something different. Not only has it delivered the kind of engaging experience that modern customers have come to expect, but it has integrated this experience into a cutting-edge platform in Amazon Live, thus delivering their experience directly to the customer, creating a powerful new touchpoint."
Francois de Bodinat, CPO, ZeroLight
This project comes amid a wider digitalisation drive for Mitsubishi and is just the beginning of their partnership with ZeroLight. Customers can expect a second configurator from the pair soon.
