Simon Hembert is a student at the Pôle IIID Computing School in France who has recently joined ZeroLight's Internship Program for three months over the summer. In this blog we talk to him about his experiences so far.
What attracted you to apply for an internship at ZeroLight?
ZeroLight was such a good opportunity for me to discover an innovative company which works in exciting fields like virtual reality. It also allowed me to improve my skills in development and use the software I am learning to complete my master's degree.
What has been your main focus over the internship's three months?
I am lucky enough to be working on one of ZeroLight's top secret products which gives me the opportunity to work with the company's virtual experience technology, specifically working with the HTC Vive. My internship's goal is to create a demonstration of the how the technology will be used by clients in the future to help us understand how we can further develop the product in the future.
How have you enjoyed living in Newcastle so far?
I am really enjoying living abroad and staying in Newcastle for a few months. It was such a great experience since the early days to discover another culture, meet new people here in ZeroLight, in my house-share and in the city's events as well.
Through this stay in the north of England, I am also able to be part of incredible world events like Leeds festival and the Fringe in Edinburgh.
How will the ZeroLight experience support you with your studies?
ZeroLight helps me to build solid work experience on my main game development skills. Then I can see how a company uses this kind of technology and ability to create something different from a video game.
What's it like to work at ZeroLight?
I also have the opportunity to discover a really healthy work environment where I have enjoyable breaks. I can socialize, play table tennis and pool. Actually, it must be the best way to improve my English. I have even joined the badminton club and play twice a week with workmates.
This is a life changing experience I would recommend to anyone who wants to discover an exciting city and a great company.
